A new lifecycle assessment by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence finds that nodule-derived products from TMC’s planned NORI-D project performed better in almost every impact category analyzed than all the land-based routes chosen for comparison for nickel, copper and cobalt. As society sets about sourcing the mountain of metals needed for the energy transition, science-based, third-party LCAs are one of the tools available to help us make informed decisions as to what costs are acceptable for both planet and people.
