SIA Scoping Consultation – Comment period now open
CALL FOR COMMENTS: Scoping Document for NORI-D Social Impact Assessment (SIA)
PURPOSE: SEEKING COMMENTS TO INFORM THE DESIGN OF THE NORI-D PROJECT SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT TERMS OF REFERENCE
Nauru Ocean Resources Inc. (NORI) is developing the NORI-D deep-sea polymetallic nodule collection project (the Project) located in international waters, in the Clarion Clipperton Zone (CCZ) of the Pacific Ocean. These nodules contain high concentrations of nickel, manganese, cobalt, and copper. NORI’s license area is ranked as having the largest undeveloped nickel deposit in the world.
An SIA Scoping Document for the Project is available for viewing here.Stakeholders are invited to review the document and provide comments by January 29, 2023. These comments will inform the Terms of Reference for the Project’s planned Social Impact Assessment (SIA) study.
NORI plans to host an informational webinar about the SIA scoping process on or about 8 January 2023.
